A new open-world RPG with 8/10 scores offers players a fine mix between Adventure Time’s quirky art style and Stardew Valley gameplay, and if you’re a fan of either, be sure to check it out. RPGs are one of the most beloved genres in gaming, as they have been around and evolving for decades on end. Some open-world RPGs were lost to time, but new ones are released every so often, be they from big companies or smaller indie developers. With such an intense influx of new titles, it’s often a matter of checking out recommendations.
Now, a new RPG has just arrived, and it looks great. Released in Early Access on Steam on October 14, a new game called Good Heavens! immediately stands out due to its whimsical and colorful art style, which is highly reminiscent of that seen in Adventure Time, even if it is its own thing. Good Heavens! is an open-world RPG focused on crafting and building, which makes it a delight for fans of life sims, such as Stardew Valley.
Good Heavens! takes place in the post-apocalyptic world of Xant-Rar, and you’ll be exploring procedurally generated islands to establish yourself and, perhaps, even save the world from total collapse. Much like the gameplay foundation for Stardew Valley, Good Heavens! will have you build and expand your household by gathering resources, farming, decorating, and much more. However, you are part of a community and will be able to help a settlement become a city.
To do this, you’ll be required to help citizens, and as each settlement expands, you’ll have more options at your disposal. Your choices in this open-world RPG may matter, as they’ll impact the campaign. Apart from setting roots in a community, you’ll be able to engage in action-based combat against monsters and bosses. Good Heavens! is a survival game at its core, but according to the developers, “it does not constantly interrupt the adventure.”
*“Good Heavens! is an open-world crafting and building RPG for solo and online co-op up to 8 players,” *explains the full synopsis. “Explore mysterious biomes, build your base, master six distinct tech trees, rebuild fallen cities, and help a clumsy God restore his world on the brink of collapse.”
For example, you have a food system in Good Heavens!, but instead of it “acting as a death timer,” food will strengthen your stats. This approach and everything else the game has to offer seems to have struck a chord with players. At the time of writing, Good Heavens! has an 85% Positive review status on Steam, a testament to how much players have been enjoying it – and it’s only in Early Access. Oh, and you can enjoy online co-op gameplay with up to 8 players.
Over the upcoming months, Good Heavens! will continue to expand and be polished, a lot of which will be based on player feedback. There’s a lot of potential for this game, including a ton of extra content, so if it resonated with you, be sure to check out this open-world RPG.
