Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider.  He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.

Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.

Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

Crime thrillers have enjoyed considerable success in Hollywood’s ongoing reboot experiments. Magnum P.I., Criminal Minds: Evolution, Justified: City Primeval, and The Day of the Jackal are a few examples. Next in line for the treatment is The Rockford Files, NBC’s classic detective drama that originally ran from 1974 to 1980. Starring the iconic James Garner as private investigator Jim Rockford, the series is widely revered as one of television’s greatest crime dramas. Several decades later, NBC is looking to recapture that magic with a reboot, enlisting SEAL Team and Bones alum David Boreanaz to step into the iconic role.

The Rockford Files reboot was commissioned earlier this year, and regular bite-sized updates have since been trickling in. NBC appears to be prioritizing the series as development has seemingly progressed faster than usual. The reboot will reportedly stay largely faithful to the original, per the synopsis, which reads: “Newly paroled after doing time for a crime he didn’t commit, James Rockford returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles. It doesn’t take long for his quest for legitimacy to land him squarely in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime.”

Recent reports suggest the reboot is being treated as a major property, and the network’s confidence in the series is reflected in its hefty price tag. The first season, which will consist of 13 episodes, reportedly comes with a staggering budget of $69,673,000. Now, a new set photo from the series has surfaced, showing leading man David Boreanaz hard at work and seemingly enjoying every bit of it. The photo, which you can see here, shows Boreanaz standing on a street beside a sleek green vintage car. The actor sports blue denim jeans, a light blue shirt, and a gray blazer, giving his take on Jim Rockford a look that feels both casual and polished. Cars played a significant role in the original series, and it appears that this signature element will carry over into the reboot.

Four criminal masterminds. One of them was always going to be yours. Here is who comes for you, why they picked you out of everyone available, and what they want from

Your nemesis does not want to beat you. He wants to know you completely, and he is patient enough to wait for it. The frightening part is how good the conversation is.

Your nemesis is not after money, territory or revenge. He is after a demonstration, and you are the person he has chosen to prove his point on.

Your nemesis respects you, which sounds flattering until you work out what it means. He chose you because nobody else was worth his time.

Your nemesis has no personal interest in you whatsoever, and that is precisely what makes him unsurvivable. You are not a rival. You are a stop on the way.

David Boreanaz previously revealed that work on the pilot has already wrapped, with Superbad director Greg Mottola at the helm. It’s unclear how many episodes remain to be filmed, but given the production’s reported progress, the series could be on track to complete filming by the end of the year. NBC has scheduled *The Rockford Files *for its midseason lineup in January, securing the coveted Thursday 8 p.m. ET timeslot, which has a track record of launching successful shows. An exact premiere date has yet to be announced, but that information is expected soon.

Joining Boreanaz in the cast are ***9-1-1: Lone Star ***alum Michaela McManus as Kate, Rockford’s ex; Silver Linings Playbook star Jacki Weaver as his trailer-park neighbor and activist; and The Rookie actor Felix Solis as Nitty, Rockford’s defense attorney and confidante. The reboot was created by Mike Daniels, whose previous credits include hit shows such as The Vampire Diaries and Sons of Anarchy. Stay tuned for more updates.
