While fans await the confirmed date for the new Solo Leveling movie, there’s no better way to stay entertained in the meantime than with a new anime, and one of the top contenders comes from the isekai genre. Solo Leveling feels somewhat “isekai-adjacent,” not only due to battles against monsters invading the world but also because of an air of fantasy intrigue suggesting there’s far more than meets the eye. For viewers looking for something with a similar vibe yet a style all its own, a recent isekai hit has just returned to Crunchyroll.

Anime fans naturally gravitate toward protagonists with overwhelming power, a trait *Solo Leveling *and A Wild Last Boss Appeared! have in spades. Although the latter may seem far more lighthearted than* Solo Leveling* at first glance, the two stories share similarities that make A Wild Last Boss Appeared! an excellent follow-up series. With both series centering on an ordinary person who ends up commanding powerful subordinates and featuring numerous mysteries, spectacular battles, and even some of the same production staff, Lufas Maphaahl’s journey offers exactly the kind of experience fans of Sung Jinwoo might be looking for.

While Solo Leveling is busy pushing an emerging power fantasy genre to grow its numbers, A Wild Last Boss Appeared! had plenty of competition in the already-saturated isekai anime market on Crunchyroll. Featuring the #1 player of the in-series fictional game *Exgate Online *as he’s then trapped in the body of its avatar, this anime sat initially in *Overlord’s *shadow.

Yet, as viewers get engrossed in the plot, the world, rather than taking cues from the game, relies on the lore built by its “novel system” chronicling its PvP conquests, and protagonist Lufas Maphaal is a quirkier, differently complicated isekai hero than Ainz Ooal Gown.

The anime briefly starts with a stint of one-sided battles in which Lufas subdues opponents like members of the Seven Luminaries, but truthfully, Lufas has some wildly compelling supporting characters. These include the femboy Aries, the astute golem Libra, and the elegant, loyal attendant Aigokeros, the latter of whom even joins Lufas’ shadow like Beru or Igris from Solo Leveling.

The series features Lufas wrestling with their dual identity, both as the male player and the female character he embodies. Moreover, Lufas encounters allies like the Twelve Heavenly Stars based on the traditional Zodiac with some Grecian tweaks while trying to regain the character’s suppressed memories from childhood, with nefarious, manipulative forces pushing Lufas into conflicts with Exgate’s world.

What’s neat about A Wild Last Boss Appeared! is that, on top of its vibrant, colorful visuals and goofy isekai mechanics, including an RV Golem that eventually gets airplane wings, it also has some truly spectacular fights. One particular Heavenly Star, Libra, consistently steals the show with her mix of mecha combat tech and maid aesthetics, resembling One-Punch Man’s Genos.

Another reason *Solo Leveling *fans should check it out, alongside *One-Punch Man *fans who loved the Boros fight, is that its director, Yūya Horiuchi, storyboarded some of the Solo Leveling anime’s best moments. This includes the fateful Double Dungeon incident, and even Jinwoo’s most touching emotional reunion. *A Wild Last Boss Appeared! *boasts similar levels of polish and care throughout season 1.

The isekai anime introduced an impressive array of characters, including lore about Lufas’ race, and hints of an abused childhood that led her down her path before the player inhabited her. With even greater power hinted beneath the surface of Lufas’ Level 1,000 state, it looks as though, like Jinwoo, there’s still room to grow.

Just one year after its debut, A Wild Last Boss Appeared! premiered its second season on September 26, 2026. This means the anime’s continuation arrived more expediently than the upcoming Solo Leveling movie, offering something thrilling for viewers while waiting for the latter. After particularly exciting moments, like the watershed discovery in episode #10 and the laying out of the Goddess’ Scenario, it becomes clear that the path awaiting Lufas is fraught with mysteries.

Beyond its top-tier action, the conspiracy looming over Lufas creates an aura of intrigue that casts constant doubt on the true nature of the characters, even her allies, ensuring that shocking revelations await viewers. So, alongside the powerful Black-Winged Boss gathering the Twelve Heavenly Stars, the series has been unveiling clues regarding Lufas’s defeat 200 years ago. That means that, just as Sung Jinwoo is driven by the System and seeks to uncover the reason behind the gates on Earth in Solo Leveling, Lufas attempts to find answers about her summoning, her lost memories, and the game world.

Furthermore, the original novel of A Wild Last Boss Appeared! is relatively short, causing the anime to move at a fast pace, which is a departure from most isekai series that drag on without much progress. This becomes evident in the fact that, in this season, Lufas will already be battling Benetnasch, known as the strongest of the Seven Heroes. This makes* A Wild Last Boss Appeared! Season 2* a must-watch anime for Fall 2026, especially for fans of Solo Leveling who are looking to follow another overpowered protagonist who defies everything in their path.
