Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.

For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things Bosch, Mission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider’s news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.

He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.

His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan’s work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

If the president is driving his own getaway car, the security detail has already had a rough night. You take the man who made Die Hard 2, give him the star of Die Hard With a Vengeance, and team him up with one of the best action movie stars today, and you’ve got a hell of a show. Samuel L. Jackson is behind the wheel, Joel Kinnaman is bleeding through his shirt, and the men chasing them aren’t giving either one much room to work.

Collider can exclusively debut a new clip from ***The ***Beast, the upcoming action thriller directed by Renny Harlin and written by Umair Aleem. Jackson plays the president, with Kinnaman as the injured Secret Service agent caught in the attack alongside him. When a militia of unidentified hostiles coordinates a coup against the U.S., the president is forced to drive the presidential limousine and unlock the full extent of The Beast’s highly classified offensive capabilities to save his injured Secret Service agent, reunite with his wife, and save the world.

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

We open with a nighttime chase as Kinnaman hangs through an open rear door, in a pretty precarious spot while Jackson keeps driving. Kinnaman is struggling to get back in when a masked attacker gives him another problem to deal with. A pursuing vehicle stays close, gunfire pounds the limo, and the fight leaves very little space between Kinnaman and the open doorway. Kinnaman eventually realizes the grenades conveniently attached to his opponent’s vest can be used to his advantage, and he pulls their pins out before sending him out of the moving car. Fun. It gets us through the attack safely enough, but the aftermath isn’t a victory lap as Kinnaman slumps into the back seat with blood across his face and shirt, while Jackson keeps checking on him from the front. The car is still moving, but the passengers have looked better.

Harlin has some history with this kind of assignment. He directed Die Hard 2, so the comparison comes with an actual connection behind the camera. He also previously worked with Jackson on The Long Kiss Goodnight, another action thriller that gave its characters very little time to recover between attempts on their lives. Here, much of the trouble in the exclusive footage fits inside a single moving car.

The Beast opens in theaters October 9 with a runtime of 99 minutes. Stay tuned at Collider for more.
