Pokémon Legends: Z-A was released nearly a year ago. This Pokémon spin-off continues the story of 2013’s Pokémon X & Y, which came out on the Nintendo 3DS, and takes place five years after the Generation VI games. While critics praised it, audiences were more critical. As the game prepares to celebrate its first anniversary, a special release has been announced, but there’s a catch.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the second installment in the Pokémon Legends spin-off series and is set entirely in Lumiose City in the Kalos region. Five years after the events of Pokémon X & Y, the city has undergone an urban redevelopment project, turning it into a place where wild Pokémon and humans can coexist through the introduction of “Wild Zones.” The player takes on the role of Paxton/Harmony, who arrives in Lumiose City as a tourist but eventually joins Team MZ, which consists of Urbain/Taunie, Lida, and Naveen. Together, they compete in the citywide Z-A Royale, aiming to reach Rank A and be granted a wish. Soon, they become involved in saving the city from “Rogue Mega Evolution,” a phenomenon in which wild Pokémon Mega Evolve on their own. A few months after the game’s release, a DLC called ***Mega Dimension ***came out, allowing players to enter an alternate dimension called Hyperspace Lumiose, where more powerful Pokémon reside.
The Pokémon Company has announced a complete release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, with the game cartridge also including the Mega Dimension DLC. This bundle is set to come out on October 29 and includes a code that gives players 100 Ultra Balls. As of writing, the price of this bundle has yet to be revealed. While some fans are excited about the release, others have criticized the news, mainly because of the box art for the European and UK release. Additionally, this bundle is only available for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, but it will still be playable on the original Nintendo Switch if you own one.
Your answers point to the iconic universe your values, your instincts, and your particular way of seeing the world were built for. This is where you would find your people — and your purpose.
You believe in the cause — in the idea that freedom is worth fighting for even when the odds are impossible and the empire is vast.
You understand, in the deepest part of yourself, that the journey matters as much as the destination — and that the world’s beauty is worth protecting even at great cost.
You believe that love, loyalty, and doing what’s right are not naive sentiments — they are the most powerful forces in any world, magical or otherwise.
You see the world clearly — its power structures, its hypocrisies, its brutal arithmetic — and you are not paralysed by that clarity. You use it.
You believe the future is worth building — that curiosity, cooperation, and the expansion of understanding are not just ideals but the most practical path forward for any civilisation.
This year, The Pokémon Company announced its 10th generation of Pokémon games, called Pokémon Winds and Waves. Scheduled for release in 2027, the upcoming title is set in an archipelago region inspired by Southeast Asian countries. As of writing, a teaser trailer has been released, featuring glimpses of the new location and its starter Pokémon, but the box legendaries have yet to be announced. It was also reported that once Winds and Waves comes out, the Pokémon anime could change its format, moving from an episodic release schedule to a seasonal one.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with the complete edition releasing on October 29.
