Best known for his role as Lucifer in the hit Fox series that ran for six seasons between 2016 and 2021, Tom Ellis has quietly become one of TV’s most prominent stars. Years before he starred in Lucifer, Ellis also starred in the key role of Gary Ellis across multiple seasons of Miranda, the forgotten sitcom starring **Miranda Hart **and Patricia Hodge. In more recent years, Ellis featured as Oliver in one of the steamiest shows on Hulu, Tell Me Lies, and he also teamed up with Pierce Brosnan for the 2025 Netflix sleeper hit, The Thursday Murder Club. This year, though, it’s Ellis’ role in the hit new CBS procedural series, CIA, that has fans around the world talking. After starring in the lead role in the first season, Ellis is back in CIA Season 2, which premieres this Monday, October 5.
The first season of CIA premiered earlier this year in February, but in true network TV fashion, CBS brought the show back for Season 2 only eight months after the premiere of Season 1. This return timeline is unprecedented for many streaming shows that often take years off between seasons, but CBS continues to show dedication to bringing shows back with little to no wait between seasons. Mere days ahead of the CIA Season 2 premiere, Collider is thrilled to partner with CBS to exclusively preview a new sneak peek at the upcoming episode, showing FBI’s John Boyd, who plays Special Agent Stuart Scola, crossing over into the series. New episodes of CIA will be released every Monday on CBS, and they will stream the next day on Paramount Plus.
Four action series. One of them is built around exactly the way you handle pressure, people, and a room that has just gone very quiet. Here is where you would survive the trilogy, and probably headline it.
You are precision with a grudge. You don’t posture, you don’t escalate, and you don’t warn anybody twice. That is exactly why the people who know you are so careful never to be the reason you start.
You understand the thing the whole franchise is secretly about: the cars are spectacular, but the crew is the point. You collect people, you keep them, and you’d drive through a building for any one of them.
You over-prepare and then take the dangerous part yourself anyway. It looks like control, but it’s really responsibility. You have never worked out how to ask somebody else to carry the risk.
You are not the most trained person in the building, the best equipped, or the one anybody would have picked. You are simply the one still standing at the end, which turns out to be the only qualification that matters.
Titled “The Deep,” the Season 2 premiere episode of CIA is set to be one of the most riveting episodes of the entire series. When a widely known cartel fixer shows up in New York City, the team tracks him down only to find the body of a DEA agent. It quickly becomes obvious that the case isn’t what it seems, and the team must work together quickly to prevent additional bloodshed. While they work to solve the murder and apprehend the fixer, Bill makes a shocking discovery relating to the death of his father, which pushes him to enlist the help of FBI Special Agent Stuart Scola, played by John Boyd.
