Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant’s gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy.
Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant’s gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.
Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He’s appeared on various podcasts, including VGC’s and BBC’s Let’s Talk About Tech.

If you’re looking for something new to play this week, **Steam **gamers can get their hands on an impressive selection of eight great games, all completely free. 2026 has been an absolutely ridiculous year for video games so far, with huge hits like *Control Resonant *and *007 First Light *alongside genuinely great surprises like *Toem 2 *and Well Dweller. Even so, it’s always worth checking out a few extra hidden gems here and there, especially when they don’t cost a penny.
Here, then, are eight genuinely fantastic games you can play free on Steam right now, from Stardew Valley-inspired cozy sims to visual novels. There really is a little something for all of you.
All you need to check out these new Steam freebies is a Steam account. It couldn’t be much simpler. To be clear, these freebies aren’t exactly AAA juggernauts. Don’t go expecting Assassin’s Creed or Call Of Duty. What you will get, however, is a selection of delightful little indies that would otherwise have flown under your radar. Shall we take a look?
**The eight new free Steam games you can download this week are: **
Those are the big ones for now, but it’s worth noting there are new free games added to Steam almost every day.
It’s really up to you which game you decide to go for first, if indeed you spend your time with any of them. Personally, I reckon if you like Stardew Valley (and who doesn’t?) then you should take a look at Farlands. But it’s completely your call. You could also spend time working through your current backlog and not add anymore games to the pile, but that doesn’t sound like much fun.
