Best known for her breathtaking role as Velma Kelly in the 2002 true-crime musical Chicago, Catherine Zeta-Jones is still, without question, one of Hollywood’s most important actresses. The late ’90s and early 2000s were a great time for fans of Zeta-Jones, as she starred in massive hits like The Mask of Zorro (co-starring Antonio Banderas), Entrapment (co-starring Sean Connery), and even Traffic (co-starring Michael Douglas and Benicio del Toro). Zeta-Jones never picked up another Oscar nomination following her career-defining performance in Chicago, but she’s been steadily starring in other movies and TV shows in the last few years despite the lack of awards recognition. She even stars as Morticia in one of the biggest Netflix shows of all time, Wednesday, which features Jenna Ortega as the titular character, Wednesday Addams.
Catherine Zeta-Jones is always on the lookout for her next big streaming hit, and she’s found another starring role in a show that could quietly be one of the most impressive of the entire year. Zeta-Jones will star opposite Daniel Ings, Bill Paterson, and Ron Perlman in the new action thriller series, Kill Jackie, which is set to premiere on October 2. Today, Collider is thrilled to bring you an exclusive sneak peek at what’s to come. In addition to starring in the leading role, Zeta-Jones also serves as an executive producer on the show, which is based on the novel The Price You Pay by Nick Harkaway. The show was written and created for TV by Conor Keane and Tom Butterworth, and additional cast members include Sidse Babett Knudsen, Óscar Jaenada, Hattie Hook, Darci Shaw, Raff Law, Enzo Cilenti, Christine Adams, Tadashi Ito, and more.
Four action series. One of them is built around exactly the way you handle pressure, people, and a room that has just gone very quiet. Here is where you would survive the trilogy, and probably headline it.
You are precision with a grudge. You don’t posture, you don’t escalate, and you don’t warn anybody twice. That is exactly why the people who know you are so careful never to be the reason you start.
You understand the thing the whole franchise is secretly about: the cars are spectacular, but the crew is the point. You collect people, you keep them, and you’d drive through a building for any one of them.
You over-prepare and then take the dangerous part yourself anyway. It looks like control, but it’s really responsibility. You have never worked out how to ask somebody else to carry the risk.
You are not the most trained person in the building, the best equipped, or the one anybody would have picked. You are simply the one still standing at the end, which turns out to be the only qualification that matters.
AMC+ has released an official synopsis for Kill Jackie, which reads as follows: “Kill Jackie follows Jackie Price (Zeta-Jones), who has spent the last twenty years living a quiet, luxurious existence selling fine art while remaining anonymous after escaping a criminal past. Her carefully constructed world is shattered when she discovers that The Seven Demons, a squad of ruthless assassins, have been hired to kill her. Jackie will need to unleash her old instincts and execute a dangerous plan to take down the Demons.” The show is set to be a must-watch for fans of Killing Eve and John Wick. AMC+ is also home to some of the most popular TV shows in the world, including The Walking Dead, The Vampire Lestat, and The Terror: Devil in Silver, which was produced by Ridley Scott.
