You can now play an official RPG based on Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim, piloting mechs, taking down Kaiju, and engaging in other epic fights to save the world from disaster. The franchise hasn’t received any major releases as of late, though it is still considered one of the best series of its genre. While another blockbuster movie hasn’t been announced, there is a Pacific Rim prequel TV show in development for Amazon Prime Video. Nevertheless, a release date has not yet been announced.
There is also not enough credit given to the 14-part Pacific Rim series on Netflix, which expands the franchise’s universe and gives us a different take on humanity’s continuous fight against the emergence of Kaiju. The animated show is set approximately five years after the events of Pacific Rim: Uprising, the 2018 sequel to the 2013 production, directed by Steven S. DeKnight. Nevertheless, fans of the franchise are still left hanging, waiting and hoping for more epic battles against giant monsters.
Even though there is some hope the prequel series will arrive later this year or perhaps in 2027, there are ways to continue engaging with the franchise while you wait. As seen on the official Evil Genius Games website, there is now an official Pacific Rim RPG that you can play, taking on the role of a mech pilot and battling gargantuan monsters alongside friends. The product is currently out of stock on the website, but it is technically already available to anyone who wants to pilot a Jaeger and save the world.
This is not a video game with Pacific Rim-like themes; it’s a tabletop RPG centered around the Pacific Rim universe. Pacific Rim: A Cinematic Adventure is a 128-page adventure set in the franchise’s world, designed to be played with the Everyday Heroes RPG system. For reference, Everyday Heroes is a system that is based on 5e rules, but with some changes to fit the different themes. For example, it excludes the entire magic system and introduces mechanics for firearm combat and more. There’s also an archetype system for character builds.
Pacific Rim: Cinematic Adventure includes tons of lore details about the world created by Guillermo Del Toro’s film. For example, you can learn a lot more about the BuenaKai Cults, which worship the Kaiju. There are also unique character options, rules for creating and operating Jaegers, and more. There is also a new Class and a new Profession for the Everyday Heroes RPG system, which fits the Pacific Rim elements.
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to be a legendary Jaeger pilot, this is the game for you. Not only do you have the chance to beat Kaiju to a pulp, but you can also participate in political conspiracies, cult-related threats, and much more. For fans of Pacific Rim, especially those who are missing new content to engage with, the Pacific Rim: Cinematic Adventure RPG is a whole new world of possibilities.
