Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series really is one of the modern (ish) greats of the genre, and it deserves every ounce of praise that it gets from its legion of fans. That said, those same fans haven’t been catered to via adaptations to other mediums in anything like the same way as those who follow epics like The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.

The Prime Video adaptation failed to hit the heights the streaming giant had been hoping for, falling by the wayside after three seasons simply didn’t do enough to justify another. Outside of that, things have been looking fairly sparse, but there is one release on the way that really could mark a major turn of fortunes for the community.

In case you haven’t been following along with the crowdfunding campaign, War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time is an upcoming grand strategy board game that absolutely smashed past its goal of $50,000, crossing $1.1 million before it drew to a close.

In letting fans know a little about what they can expect if they do decide to invest in the game ahead of time, publisher Dire Wolf shared the following description:

“Robert Jordan’s fantasy masterpiece comes to your table with the first-ever board game based on The Wheel of Time series. War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time chronicles the epic conflict between the forces of light and darkness as players wage war across a land of magic, ancient prophecies, and powerful armies set to save the world … or destroy it. The game combines tableau building, action selection, and area control mechanics in a thrilling struggle of conquest and survival.”

As part of that, fans can pick up The Last Battle Bundle, which essentially amounts to the deluxe version of the game, as well as all cosmetics. The full list of items included in the package is as follows:

The only downside to all of that very exciting news is that War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time has only just entered production in earnest, and Dire Wolf aren’t expecting it to ship until June 2027. If you can hold on that long, though, it could easily be one of the best physical board game releases of next year.
