Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.

For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things BoschMission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider’s news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.

He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.

His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan’s work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

It’s been years since a landmark sci-fi phenomenon first captivated audiences, but its universe-spanning virtual world clearly still has plenty of life left in it. A glossy 2018 adaptation cemented Ernest Cline’s original novel’s spot in pop-culture history, leaving fans waiting endlessly to see where the story might go next. Now, the franchise is officially making a comeback this year with a creative twist that expands the lore in a whole new way.

This brand-new visual adaptation is being published by Ten Speed Graphic, featuring a story by Scott Peterson and art by Meredith Laxton. U.S. readers can pick up an exclusive hardcover at Target on October 6, 2026, followed by a wider release in paperback and hardcover on March 2, 2027. Fans in the UK and Canada will also be able to grab the book through major retailers on October 6.

The project in question is Ready Player One: The Graphic Novel, bringing Cline’s OASIS to life on the page. That’s not the only piece of news, either: a graphic novel adaptation of Ready Player Two is already slated for 2028. This signals a much larger effort to reimagine the franchise for a new medium, giving Steven Spielberg’s cinematic blockbuster universe a fresh, illustrated rebirth rather than treating it like a standard tie-in.

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Collider’s review stated that Ready Player One overcomes shaky source material and nostalgia-heavy marketing to deliver a fleet-footed, **visually dazzling adventure **that’s more about forging your own identity than obsessing over pop culture. Ultimately, Ready Player One may not rank among Spielberg’s all-time masterpieces, but it showcases a director still firmly in command of blockbuster storytelling — reminding audiences why he remains a fixture at the top of the cinematic leaderboard.

“There are certainly moments where the movie stumbles a bit, and those that have already written off the picture, whether due to the marketing or screenwriter Ernest Cline’s novel, probably won’t be won over by what Spielberg is doing here. But the movie is a different beast than the book, and it’s certainly not the cavalcade of character crossover the film has presented. Even moments that would have made me cringe, like The Iron Giant firing on people during a big battle scene, surprisingly work due to the context of the story and how Spielberg keeps the focus on his protagonists and their quest.”

Ready Player One’s expansion into the graphic novel medium arrives on October 6.
