The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting ready for some big changes.
Over the last couple of years, the MCU timeline has seen its fair share of change across the big and small screens. From newer heroes and villains making the jump from page to screen, a couple of established players have also ended up being recast, and it is about to happen again.
The next major TV show for Marvel Studios will be VisionQuest, with Paul Bettany reprising his role, as Empire Magazine shared a new look at the series. The new image, however, does confirm that two long-time Marvel characters are officially being recast, as Orla Brady is taking over as F.R.I.D.A.Y. from Kerry Condon while Emily Hampshire is replacing Dawn Michelle King as E.D.I.T.H. Check out the photo below:
The VisionQuest show, which will see the resurrected android trying to put his life together again after the events of WandaVision, will feature various Marvel A.I.s that have been seen in the MCU, but in human form. As most of the story takes place inside his mind, that is what allows characters like F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H. to show up, but with physical actors playing them this time.
James Darcy, who previously played Edwin Jarvis in Agent Carter, will be showing up as the human iteration of J.A.R.V.I.S. in the Disney+ project. The Phase 6 drama will be the third and final entry in the WandaVision trilogy, which also brought the Agatha All Along spinoff to life.
After bringing him to life in Avengers: Age of Ultron, James Spader will be featured in VisionQuest as the famous Marvel villain. The Blacklist star recently spoke with Rotten Tomatoes about his return, “The downstairs and the outside are this really strange, nightmarish, in a certain way, mansion, but in a pastoral setting, and Ultron lives in a very urban loft upstairs, and many stories upstairs isn’t it like hundreds of stories or something, and he’s just been imprisoned for by now it would be what 14 years or something.”
Spader teased how Ultron has “been in prison. He’s had access to the internet, television, history, and he’s just been consuming, and he’s been painting. He’s become a painter… He’s just making trouble in this house with [Vision], who he loves and hates, and all these other AIs who he couldn’t give a s—t about.” The MCU offshoot comes from 12 Monkeys and Star Trek: Picard’s Terry Matalas, and will consist of eight episodes, being the final Marvel release before Avengers: Doomsday opens in December.
Whether or not VisionQuest will tie into Avengers: Doomsday remains to be seen, but Bettany has suggested that he will seemingly be part of the ensemble films, or at least one of them. Back in December 2025, the British actor told The Telegraph that he has Avengers “duties” in 2026, which could potentially hint at Vision being in Secret Wars.
At the time, all he said was that “I think I’ve got some Avengers duties next year.” Since Secret Wars is set to start shooting this year, it would make sense if he is in the finale of the Multiverse Saga, unless he has secretly filmed something for Doomsday already.
VisionQuest debuts on October 14 on Disney+.
