Hannah has been writing about horror, sci-fi, and all things nerdy since 2021. At Collider, she covers news and conducts interviews, along with contributing features that dive deep into genre storytelling and why it works. If there’s something lurking in the shadows, she’s probably already writing about it if she’s not too busy watching a tape from her VHS collection.
Netflix has already found enormous success bringing the world of One Piece into live action, but apparently, one version of the Straw Hat Pirates simply isn’t enough. Monkey D. Luffy and his crew are getting yet another makeover, and this time, they’re trading the Grand Line for something considerably more blocky. As part of Netflix’s latest slate of anime-inspired announcements timed to Anime NYC, the streamer has debuted the first official trailer for LEGO One Piece.
The new project transforms Netflix’s live-action take on Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga into LEGO form, offering fans a completely different way to experience the Straw Hats and their adventures. The trailer arrives alongside a new batch of images from the upcoming project. The new trailer finally gives fans a proper look at how One Piece translates into the unmistakable LEGO style. The project takes the characters and world audiences already know from Netflix’s live-action adaptation and rebuilds them brick by brick, putting a playful new spin on Luffy’s journey to become King of the Pirates.
Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.
You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.
The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.
You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.
Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.
The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
LEGO One Piece also arrives at a particularly big moment for the franchise on Netflix. The streamer’s live-action series has helped introduce Oda’s sprawling pirate adventure to an even larger audience, while Netflix is also developing THE ONE PIECE, a new anime adaptation from WIT Studio that will return to the beginning of Luffy’s story. Add LEGO One Piece to the mix, and Netflix is quickly becoming home to several very different interpretations of the same beloved world. Of course, One Piece is uniquely suited for the LEGO treatment. The series is packed with colorful locations, enormous ships, bizarre villains, and characters whose abilities routinely stretch the limits of reality. Translating that chaos into LEGO gives the franchise another opportunity to lean into its inherent silliness while still keeping the Straw Hats at the center of the adventure.
Netflix hasn’t finished expanding the One Piece universe, either. Alongside the LEGO One Piece trailer, the streamer also revealed new key art for THE ONE PIECE, giving fans another glimpse at WIT Studio’s highly anticipated anime remake. Between live action, a new anime, and now a LEGO incarnation, Luffy’s quest for the world’s greatest treasure is taking more forms than ever before.
