Marvel Officially Reveals Apocalypse’s Fate After the ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 Finale [Exclusive]

There’s no better time to be a fan of the X-Men than right now — Marvel’s original beloved team has taken a back seat in live-action in recent years, but that’s all going to change after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel has enlisted Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, and Samara Weaving to respectively star as Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Emma Frost in a new X-Men movie coming in the next few years, but it will have a lot of work to do to live up to the standard set by X-Men ‘97. Marvel has released two seasons of X-Men ‘97 in the last few years, with more confirmed to be on the way in 2027 and 2028. Apocalypse has been dealt with for now, but there is certainly more trouble for the mutants on the horizon.

The X-Men had a tough task laid out in front of them in X-Men ‘97 Season 2 to vanquish Apocalypse, especially after he killed Magneto in front of Charles Xavier, leaving him scarred and missing his best friend. Rogue ultimately uses her new power acquired from the Celestials to burn Apocalypse out of Gambit’s body, but only time will tell if it was worth the sacrifice of her brother Kurt, aka Nightcrawler.

Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently chatted with Marvel Studios Animation, Comics, and Franchising boss Brad Winderbaum about the X-Men ‘97 Season 2 finale, and when asked if Apocalypse could still be considered a threat after being dispatched fairly quickly in Season 2, he said, “Apocalypse has many plans. Apocalypse is omni-present. Apocalypse sneaks up on you when you least expect him, and Apocalypse is always going to try and find a way to be the smartest person out there,” teasing that the X-Men’s quarrel with the strongest mutant is far from over.
