Frozen isn’t letting it go just yet.
Disney’s *Frozen *franchise is now a media empire focused on the royal sisters Anna and Elsa of Arendelle. It has expanded into blockbuster animated movies, short films, and a Broadway musical, and it will return in 2027 for a whole new adventure. The movies have won Oscars and dominated the box office, collectively grossing over $2.8 billion.
During D23, new information was revealed for the highly anticipated upcoming sequel, Frozen 3. Fans got a first look at Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff in all-new costumes during the event on the D23 Expo show floor. Footage was revealed at the panel, showcasing the long-awaited wedding for Anna and Kristoff. However, even love is in the air for Olaf, and Josh Gad performed a song about Samantha.
A second piece of footage was revealed where the royal wedding is crashed. In the scene, a snowflake falls, turns into a butterfly-like creature, flies into the castle, and is caught by the princess, who is joined by Olaf and Kristoff. As the lights pass by, the wedding crashes. The two princesses then walk towards the light and into the sea. Olaf calls Kristoff a terrible husband.
The group then ends up in a snowy land, and Olaf says he is going to marry the next person he meets. The butterfly starts flying again, and suddenly a hand grabs it and crushes it. A new villain walks down towards the scared sisters. Concept art was also unveiled, showing the original characters against a beautiful backdrop.
In the Disney+ documentary Disney+ Insider: World of Frozen, *Frozen 3 *co-director and writer Jennifer Lee speaks to an actress imitating Anna and says, “We hear there are big wedding plans happening.” Lee’s co-director, Trent Correy, asks Anna about the wedding planning, to which she responds, “Olaf said he likes to be in charge of all the party planning in Arendelle, and he told us that him and Kristoff had been planning a really big surprise for the Snowflower Festival.”
The 2013 movie Frozen grossed over $1.28 billion worldwide, won two Academy Awards, and launched the multi-billion dollar franchise to record heights. The iconic soundtrack and the beloved characters took over the box office as well as many children’s homes with the endless stream of merchandise and rewatches of the first movie and its sequel, Frozen 2.
The cast of *Frozen *includes Menzel, Bell, Gad, and Jonathan Groff, with much of the plot kept under wraps. Frozen 4 has previously been confirmed, but it has yet to receive an official release date, with *Frozen 3 *releasing in theaters on November 24, 2027.
Frozen III will be released in theaters on November 24, 2027.
