2026 is an exciting time to be a fan of The Lord of the Rings, even after the stumble in 2024 that was The War of the Rohirrim. Prime Video is officially bringing back its flagship fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, for Season 3 later this year in November. While not officially confirmed, it’s already been revealed that work on Season 4 is underway, and the show is expected to be renewed any day now. The Lord of the Rings fans will also be returning to theaters next year on December 17 for the release of The Hunt for Gollum, the first live-action Lord of the Rings film since the final Hobbit movie in 2014. Stars like Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, and Andy Serkis are even returning to star in the new film.
One of the most exciting Lord of the Rings projects announced this year was an ambitious new RPG game from Warhorse, the same studio behind the critically acclaimed Kingdom Come games. Details about the new open-world LOTR game are being kept under wraps right now, but it is in active development and expected to be released after Kingdom Come 3. Just yesterday, Aspyr Studios officially announced that The Lord of the Rings: War in the North has been remastered, and it’s now available to download on PS5. The game is also available on XBOX Series X|S and Steam for PC. The game is an upgraded re-release of the popular 2011 hack-and-slack game developed by Aspyr Studios, and the Legacy Edition runs at a smooth 60 FPS with bug fixes and quality of life updates to give the game a more modern feel.
