One of the world’s oldest epics is coming to theaters this fall.

Ramayana: Part One is an Indiana Hindi-language film that brings to life the Hindu epic of Rama (Ranbir Kapoor), a righteous prince who must stop the prideful, vengeful, and immortal ruler Ravana (Yash) from shattering the cosmos. Sony Pictures is distributing the movie for a global theatrical release, outside of India, in time for Diwali on November 6, with screenings available in 3D and other premium formats.

Now, the first English-language trailer for *Ramayana *has arrived. The footage opens with Ravana ominously marching toward a city’s gates, declaring that he is their “new king” before kicking his way in and brutally killing the individuals within. After Ravana conquers the world, the narration explains that when the universe faces a significant enough threat, the Hindu deity Vishnu takes on an avatar, which in this case is Rama. Check out the trailer below:

It continues with Rama wielding a bow and arrow, meditating, and declaring that he will gladly sacrifice his life to uphold his duty. He is also seen marrying Sita (Sai Pallavi), with her insisting that their fates are forever intertwined after taking their vows. After Ravana takes Sita, Rama swears to get her back, and the rest of the trailer features a montage of action-packed sequences and mythological creatures. With three minutes and 50 seconds of footage, this provides an in-depth look at what audiences can expect from the movie’s story and visual aesthetic.

*Ramayana *is produced by Namit Malhotra, who is also the founder of the eight-time Academy Award-winning visual effects company DNEG. Prior to this film, Malhotra and DNEG worked on Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Wonder Woman 1984, No Time to Die, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Matrix Resurrections, Moonfall, Uncharted, Dune, Oppenheimer, Dune: Part Two, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

In addition to DNEG, *Ramayana *brought Academy Award-winning talent aboard with Hans Zimmer, as he and A.R. Rahman composed the movie’s score. Zimmer previously won Oscars for The Lion King and Dune, the latter of which DNEG worked on as well. He has been nominated for Rain Man, The Preacher’s Wife, As Good as It Gets, The Thin Red Line, The Prince of Egypt, Gladiator, Sherlock Holmes, Inception, Interstellar, and Dunkirk.

Another key member of the *Ramayana *creative team is Nitesh Tiwari, who directed the film and adapted the story alongside Shridhar Raghavan. Tiwari is a three-time winner of India’s National Film Awards, having won Best Children’s Film and Best Original Screenplay for Children’s Party and Best Feature Film in Hindi for Chhiichore.

As indicated by the Ramayana: Part One title, this is only the first part of the ambitious cinematic project, with a sequel slated to be released in 2027, and intended to once again come to theaters around the same time as Diwali. Thanks to Sony’s worldwide distribution, the first movie can be experienced on a global scale in just a few months, which can help build further anticipation for the second part of the epic.

**Ramayana: Part One will be released worldwide in theaters on November 6. **
