That changed at the end of The Immortal Thor #25. Loki used the Arrow of Eternity to rewrite Earth’s past and present, erasing Thor and Asgard from history. Beta Ray Bill took Thor’s place as a founding Avenger, while the Thunder God himself was reborn as a powerless mortal. Now, Queen in Black #1 finally explores what that new reality looks like. While the series focuses primarily on Hela’s invasion of Earth, one of the issue’s biggest moments has nothing to do with the Queen in Black at all. Instead, it reveals the full impact of Loki’s reality-altering spell and just how lonely Beta Ray Bill has become.

As Earth’s heroes prepare to face Hela, Beta Ray Bill arrives carrying an ominous introduction. The issue identifies him as “the last to remember” Thor, immediately confirming that Loki’s rewrite extends far beyond the God of Thunder himself. The revelation becomes even more striking when Bill speaks with Hercules. As Bill references Thor and Asgard, Hercules dismisses the claims outright, insisting there was never any Thor. Bill counters that Hercules can’t trust his own memories because the spell has changed what the world remembers. Rather than trying to convince everyone, Bill turns his attention back to the battle, rallying the Avengers against Hela’s forces with Stormbreaker in hand.
It’s a dramatic shift for one of Thor’s oldest allies. Beta Ray Bill has always been defined by his connection to the God of Thunder, but Queen in Black gives him a new role entirely. With the rest of the Marvel Universe unable to remember Thor, Bill becomes the lone guardian of a history no one else believes ever happened. The issue doesn’t explain how Thor’s erased history might eventually be restored. For now, Queen in Black shows readers more of the consequences of Loki’s actions by turning one of Thor’s greatest allies into the only living witness to a Marvel Universe that no longer exists.
