All eyes were on the 78th annual Primetime Emmy Award nominations earlier this month, and the usual surprises and snubs didn’t disappoint. Although the prolific Taylor Sheridan might’ve been shut out once again from major categories, there were plenty of pleasant surprises, such as Widow’s Bay earning 19 nominations, Michael J. Fox taking his first nomination since 2016, and Jason Bateman earning a surprise Best Actor nod for Black Rabbit.

A nomination much less surprising but more than worthy of the same celebration was for Elle Fanning, who stole hearts as the lead in Apple TV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles, an adaptation of Rufi Thorpe’s bestseller of the same name. This Emmy nod has put Fanning in a rare club, as one of the few to have earned a nomination from both the Academy Awards and the Emmys in the same year, following her Supporting Actress Academy Award nomination for Sentimental Value. In total, the series received a total of 8 Emmy noms for its freshman season, which has already been renewed for a second outing.

Speaking about the renewal, called playing the titular Margo, “one of the greatest joys of my life.” She added, “Having the opportunity to bring more of Margo’s troubles, creativity, fearless spirit, and authenticity to audiences with a second season makes me incredibly happy and excited. I can promise everyone they’re in for a wild, messy, and beautiful ride.” The series also features Michelle Pfeiffer (Taylor Sheridan’s The Madison), Nick Offerman, Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden, Greg Kinnear, Michael Angarano, Rico Nasty, and Lindsey Normington.
