Stephen King’s The Dark Tower franchise return gets an exciting first look.
King’s long list of successful books presents entries of the most varied genres. Over the years, many of the author’s novels have been adapted into movies and TV shows. Among the King movie adaptations is The Dark Tower, which became a fantasy-Western movie released in 2017. The film starred Idris Elba as the Gunslinger, aka Roland Deschain, and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black, aka Walter O’Dim. Now, The Dark Tower franchise is set to come back in a major way, as a highly anticipated new release arrives in a few months, and the first look at it is now out.
The first artwork for Other Worlds Than These was revealed on the official Stephen King website. The illustrations come from artist Gabriel Rodríguez (Locke & Key, Adventures of Superman), who had already collaborated with the prolific author on another of King’s dark fantasy books, Fairy Tale. The three illustrations offer a new look at returning characters, wondrous locations, intricate vehicles, and more fantasy elements. *Other Worlds Than These *will feature 38 illustrations made by Rodríguez, all of them in black-and-white. The artist also worked with King’s son, Joe Hill, on Locke & Key, for which he earned an Eisner Award nomination. Check them out below:
Other Worlds Than These will finally continue the epic fantasy saga that began all the way back in 1984’s The Talisman. That book was written by King and Peter Straub (A Dark Matter, Mr. X). The duo later penned another entry in the fantasy series together, 2001’s Black House. While King and Straub wanted to keep the partnership going for the third novel in the franchise, the latter sadly passed away on September 4, 2022, due to complications that followed a broken hip. However, Straub had already left King with a major idea for the threequel.
Putting together his own share of thoughts and what Straub had left him with, King decided to finally move forward with the third novel in the series. Other Worlds Than These will be released on October 6, 2026, and both of the writers’ names will be seen on the book’s cover. While The Talisman trilogy is not part of the main The Dark Tower series, both franchises still exist within the same multiverse. The Territories, The White, and more locations and concepts are shared between The Dark Tower franchise and The Talisman books.
Based on that, for anyone wanting their *The Dark Tower *fix, *Other Worlds Than These *can offer that before horror icon Mike Flanagan moves forward with his planned multi-season adaptation of King’s hit fantasy franchise. Other Worlds Than These will conclude the journey of Jack Sawyer, now older. The stakes are sky-high for the final entry in the franchise, as Jack must not only save his world but all alternate worlds from ruin. The novel will heavily focus on the multiverse set up in The Dark Tower franchise, and its first look is as enticing as expected.
