Hannah has been writing about horror, sci-fi, and all things nerdy since 2021. At Collider, she covers news and conducts interviews, along with contributing features that dive deep into genre storytelling and why it works. If there’s something lurking in the shadows, she’s probably already writing about it if she’s not too busy watching a tape from her VHS collection.
The Marvel Universe is packed with legendary heroes, but some of its most memorable characters have spent decades causing problems for them. From world-conquering masterminds to street-level criminal organizations, villains have always been a crucial part of Marvel’s storytelling. Now, one of the publisher’s most unusual teams is making the jump to Magic: The Gathering.
Today, Collider is excited to exclusively reveal a brand-new card from Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes, the upcoming crossover set that brings Marvel’s iconic heroes and villains into the world’s most popular trading card game. The set arrives on June 26 and features characters from across Marvel history reimagined through Magic’s gameplay mechanics, bringing two iconic worlds together for the biggest Magic collaboration ever.
Collider is thrilled to exclusively reveal The Serpent Society, a new legendary creature card arriving in the highly anticipated crossover set on June 26. The Serpent Society costs one black mana, one green mana, and one generic mana for a 3/4 Legendary Creature — Human Snake Villain.
Based on your answers, the Marvel hero who matches your spirit, values, and instincts has been revealed.
You carry the weight of the world on shoulders that are younger than they should have to be — funny, loyal, and endlessly self-sacrificing.
You fight in the shadows between law and chaos, guided by a fierce moral compass that refuses to let the guilty walk free.
Brilliant, driven, and occasionally insufferable — but always the person who solves the unsolvable problem.
You’ve been through fire that would break most people — and it did change you, completely. What’s left is unyielding, relentless, and operating by a code forged in grief.
Powerful, proud, and on a lifelong journey to become worthy of the legend you carry.
You believe in something bigger than yourself — and you fight for it even when the world has moved on and nobody else will.
The card comes equipped with deathtouch, ensuring that any amount of damage it deals is enough to destroy opposing creatures. It also features a particularly nasty ward ability. Any opponent hoping to target The Serpent Society must first accept five poison counters, putting them halfway toward the ten poison counters required to lose the game. The card’s final ability encourages players to fully embrace a deathtouch strategy. Whenever another creature you control with deathtouch dies, each opponent sacrifices a nontoken creature of their choice. Left unchecked, that ability can quickly turn a battlefield into a war of attrition where every creature that falls takes another down with it.
First introduced in the pages of Captain America, the Serpent Society is one of Marvel’s most unusual villain organizations. The group is made up of snake-themed mercenaries, assassins, and masterminds. Members, including King Cobra, Diamondback, Black Mamba, and Anaconda, have spent decades clashing with Marvel’s heroes. That identity is reflected throughout the card’s design. The Serpent Society rewards players for building around deathtouch creatures, turning every combat trade and removal spell into a potential threat.
With deathtouch, poison counters, sacrifice effects, and built-in protection packed into a three-mana legendary creature, The Serpent Society looks poised to make an impression when Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes arrives on June 26. Stay tuned at Collider for more.
