The Marvel Cinematic Universe has several weapons that could surpass even Thanos’s Infinity Gauntlet. The Infinity Gauntlet is widely regarded as the most powerful weapon in the MCU timeline. Forged to house all six Infinity Stones, the Gauntlet gave Thanos control over space, time, reality, power, mind, and soul itself. Despite this formidable reputation, there are some other MCU weapons that could overpower Thanos’s legendary arsenal.
Once assembled in Avengers: Infinity War, the Infinity Gauntlet allowed the Mad Titan to effortlessly defeat some of the MCU’s strongest heroes before wiping out half of all life in the universe with a snap of his fingers. Few artifacts have ever demonstrated such overwhelming power on-screen.
The comic book version of the Infinity Gauntlet is even more impressive. In Marvel Comics, the completed Gauntlet effectively grants true omnipotence within its universe, allowing Thanos to challenge cosmic entities such as Eternity, Galactus, and even abstract embodiments of reality itself.
Despite being scaled back for the MCU, the Infinity Gauntlet remains the benchmark against which all other Marvel weapons are measured. Yet Marvel lore is filled with mystical relics, divine artifacts, and cosmic weapons whose unique abilities could potentially rival or even surpass the Gauntlet under the right circumstances.
The Wand of Watoomb only made a brief appearance in Doctor Strange, but its comic book reputation suggests it could be among the most dangerous magical artifacts in existence. Created by the extradimensional being Watoomb, the wand serves as a conduit for virtually limitless mystical energy.
While many magical relics amplify a sorcerer’s existing abilities, the Wand of Watoomb goes much further by actively gathering, storing, focusing, and redirecting energy on a cosmic scale. One of the Infinity Gauntlet’s greatest strengths comes from the raw power contained within the Stones themselves. The Wand of Watoomb presents an intriguing counter because its primary function revolves around manipulating energy.
In Marvel Comics, the wand has absorbed devastating magical attacks, redirected immense power back at opponents, and dramatically enhanced the capabilities of sorcerers such as Doctor Strange. If the MCU version possesses even a fraction of these abilities, it could theoretically interfere with or redirect the energy emitted by the Infinity Stones.
Beyond offensive attacks, the wand can create magical shields, heal injuries, locate virtually anything in existence, and open portals across dimensions. Simply carrying it enhances a spellcaster’s power, making it one of Marvel’s most underestimated weapons.
The Ten Rings quickly became one of the MCU’s most fascinating weapons when they debuted in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Unlike their comic counterparts, which are worn on the fingers and possess individual powers, the MCU version takes the form of ten powerful arm rings that function as both weapons and sources of immense energy.
Even without a full explanation of their origins, the rings immediately demonstrated abilities beyond anything previously seen on Earth. Xu Wenwu wielded the Rings for more than a thousand years. Their power granted him immortality, enhanced physical strength, incredible durability, and devastating ranged attacks.
What makes the Ten Rings particularly intriguing in comparison with the Infinity Gauntlet is their mysterious nature. The beacon activated by Shang-Chi suggested the Rings originated from somewhere far beyond Earth, potentially from a cosmic source still unexplored by the MCU – and potentially containing further powers more in line with Mandarin’s comic book rings.
Combined with their immortality-granting properties and unknown cosmic origins, the Ten Rings may possess untapped potential that could eventually place them among Marvel’s most powerful artifacts.
The Necrosword proved terrifyingly effective in Thor: Love and Thunder. Before obtaining the weapon, Gorr was a grieving mortal. After claiming it, he became one of the greatest threats the gods had ever faced, slaughtering divine beings across the cosmos and spreading fear throughout entire pantheons. Few weapons in Marvel history have demonstrated such an immediate and dramatic increase in their wielder’s power.
The sword’s abilities extend far beyond simple combat enhancement. It grants superhuman strength, endurance, and resilience while allowing its user to travel through shadows and move between locations with frightening efficiency. The Necrosword can also create armies of Shadow Monsters, giving its wielder overwhelming numerical advantages against even powerful opponents.
Most importantly, it possesses a singular purpose: killing gods. Comic readers know the weapon’s history is even more impressive. The All-Black was originally forged by Knull, the ancient god of the symbiotes, and has harmed celestial-level beings throughout Marvel history
While the MCU version simplified these origins, its effectiveness remained undeniable. The Infinity Gauntlet excels because it controls fundamental forces of existence, but the Necrosword specializes in destroying beings who often transcend those very forces. In the hands of a determined wielder like Gorr, it demonstrated that even cosmic entities can fall.
If any MCU weapon has already proven itself against the Infinity Gauntlet, it is Stormbreaker. Forged in the heart of Nidavellir by Eitri for the kings of Asgard, the weapon was specifically designed to be capable of confronting threats on the level of Thanos.
Unlike Mjölnir, Stormbreaker was built with overwhelming destructive power as its primary purpose, and it immediately justified that reputation during the final battle of Avengers: Infinity War. Thor’s arrival in Wakanda remains one of the MCU’s most iconic moments.
After cutting through Outriders and overwhelming Thanos’ forces, Thor hurled Stormbreaker directly at the completed Infinity Gauntlet. Even after Thanos unleashed the combined power of all six Stones, the axe continued forward, carving through the energy beam before striking the Mad Titan squarely in the chest.
For a brief moment, Stormbreaker accomplished something no other weapon had managed and overpowered a fully assembled Infinity Gauntlet. Thor’s failure came down to a tactical mistake rather than a lack of power. As Thanos famously pointed out, Thor should have aimed for the head. Had he done so (or simply severed Thanos’ arm) the battle could have ended immediately.
Few artifacts in Marvel history are as feared as the Darkhold. Introduced in WandaVision before becoming central to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the cursed tome contains the collected knowledge of Chthon, an ancient Elder God who is widely regarded as the first practitioner of dark magic. While most magical texts teach spells or rituals, the Darkhold is essentially a blueprint for rewriting reality itself through forbidden means.
Its contents are so dangerous that even the most accomplished sorcerers struggle to fully comprehend them. The book allowed the Scarlet Witch to reshape reality on a massive scale and gain powers capable of overwhelming masters of the mystic arts. More importantly, the Darkhold granted knowledge that extended far beyond a single universe, making it one of the few artifacts with true multiversal reach.
That scope is what makes it a legitimate rival to the Infinity Gauntlet. While the Stones are extraordinarily powerful, their influence is generally tied to their native universe. The Darkhold’s magic transcends those boundaries.
In the hands of a sufficiently powerful mage such as Wanda or Doctor Strange, the knowledge hidden within its pages could potentially circumvent the Stones entirely rather than confronting them directly. When an artifact contains secrets even the Sorcerer Supreme fears, it’s easy to see why it belongs in any discussion of Marvel’s most powerful weapons.
Unlike most entries on this list, the Time Ripper is not a mystical artifact or legendary weapon. Instead, it is a machine – and that may make it even more terrifying. Introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine, the Time Ripper was created by the Time Variance Authority as a means of erasing entire realities.
Rather than targeting individuals, armies, or even planets, the device is designed to destroy complete timelines by triggering total molecular breakdown through the combination of matter, antimatter, and countless reset charges. The scale of destruction involved is almost impossible to comprehend.
Once activated, entire universes can be systematically annihilated, leaving nothing behind. The machine effectively functions as a cosmic reset button, capable of removing realities from the multiversal equation altogether.
Thanos used the completed Gauntlet to erase half the life in his universe. The Time Ripper, however, is designed to eliminate everything within a reality, including the reality itself. In purely destructive terms, that arguably exceeds what the MCU version of the Infinity Gauntlet ever accomplished. While it lacks the versatility and elegance of the Stones, the Time Ripper’s ability to erase entire timelines makes it one of the most frightening pieces of technology Marvel has ever introduced.
