Production for Netflix’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Eloise has officially brought its mischief to the streets of New York City in recent days. We’ve got a bunch of first looks at the set, along with everything we know so far about the upcoming family film.

Based on the beloved 1950s children’s books written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight, Eloise is being brought to life by Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creator Amy Sherman-Palladino.

While the bulk of principal photography kicked off in the UK (specifically London and Shepperton) back in late November 2025, the production has officially moved to the Big Apple. As of late May 2026, the “NY Unit” is rolling cameras, and we have the set photos to prove it!

First Look at Eloise on Set in NYC

Recent photos from the New York set offer our very first look at newcomer Mae Schenk stepping into the iconic Mary Janes of the titular six-year-old menace.

Schenk looks like she walked right out of Hilary Knight’s original illustrations. In one shot, she can be seen wearing Eloise’s signature white blouse, black pleated suspender skirt, and a red ribbon in her hair while hopping out of a classic NYC yellow cab. Another photo shows her standing near the iconic Plaza Hotel doors sporting a very Eloise-appropriate pair of pink checkered pajamas and red heart-shaped sunglasses.

Fans of Amy Sherman-Palladino will also spot a familiar name on the clapperboard: M. David Mullen ASC. The acclaimed cinematographer, who worked extensively with Sherman-Palladino on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, is serving as Director of Photography, ensuring this movie will have a gorgeous, vibrant look.

Also spotted on set were Max Casella (Inside Llewyn Davis, Tulsa King) in a sharp grey suit chatting with Schenk on a set of red-carpeted steps, as well as young actor Isaac Bae (Unfrosted), who was seen sharing a scene with Schenk outside the hotel and in the back of the taxi cab.

What is the plot of Netflix’s Eloise?

While the official logline is currently under wraps, Netflix has confirmed that the movie will be a “wholly original adventure” rather than a strict beat-for-beat retelling of a specific book. The core premise remains true to the source material: a mischievous young girl wreaking havoc and finding adventure inside New York’s prestigious Plaza Hotel.

Hannah Minghella, Head of Feature Animation and Family Film at Netflix, teased the tone of the movie:

“Eloise has been beloved for generations, from when she was first published in the 1950s through to today, when no family trip to New York City is complete without a stop at The Plaza. It’s an honor to reintroduce this cherished character to the world with two people who share her signature mischief and charm — Amy Sherman-Palladino and Ryan Reynolds — in this bold, hilarious, and heartfelt new family film.”

Who is in the cast of Eloise?

Netflix has assembled a star-studded cast to check into The Plaza. The confirmed cast list includes:

  • Mae Schenk as Eloise

  • Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, The Adam Project)

  • Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water, Paddington)

  • David Haig (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Killing Eve)

  • Victor Garber (Titanic, Alias)

  • Max Casella (Inside Llewyn Davis)

  • Isaac Bae (Unfrosted)

Who is behind the movie?

The film is directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Hannah Marks and Beauty and the Beast scribe Linda Woolverton.

Independent studio MRC—who acquired the rights to the franchise in 2019—is overseeing the production in collaboration with Handmade Films. Furthermore, Ryan Reynolds is heavily involved behind the scenes; he is producing the film through his Maximum Effort banner alongside George Dewey, Ashley Fox, and Johnny Pariseau. Linda Woolverton is also credited as a producer, with Molly Milstein, Trudi Francis, and Sophia Travaglia serving as executive producers.

Costume design, which is already looking incredibly faithful to the books, is being handled by P.C. Williams.

When will Eloise release on Netflix?

Currently, Netflix has not announced an official release date for Eloise.

According to production listings, the main shoot spanned from late November 2025 through early April 2026. With the New York Unit currently wrapping up their exterior sequences as of late May/early June 2026, the film will soon head fully into post-production.

Given the timeline for editing and visual effects, it is highly likely we will see Eloise premiere on Netflix sometime in 2027.
