Netflix has just streamlined the way viewers discover book adaptations in its library. Introducing: Watch Your Favorite Books.
Over the years, Netflix has become one of the most ubiquitous streaming services for book-to-screen adaptations. The journey began back in 2013 with Orange is the New Black, one of Netflix’s earliest breakout hits, setting a precedent for book adaptations to follow. Some of the most successful in recent times include Bridgerton, adapting Julia Quinn’s beloved novels, and Lord of the Flies, an adaptation of William Golding’s seminal novel. With book adaptations so widespread on the streamer, Netflix has unveiled a dedicated hub, titled Watch Your Favorite Books.
This follows in the footsteps of* Your Zodiac Watchlist*, a feature rolled out in 2025 that recommends series and movies based on users’ astrological signs.
Previously, Netflix viewers were able to search for shows and movies based on novels directly from the app and website. The library has had a ‘Based on Books’ category for many years. For more advanced viewers, there are Category Codes that allow more specific searches: not only book adaptations, but genres of book adaptations. They even had a category called ‘Book Club,’ which is still live and can be found under Code 81511805.
The streamer calls its new section Watch Your Favorite Books, and it consists of nine quirkily-named categories, each covering a different style of book adaptations from novels to comics. The category list is below:
-
You Crave Amazing Characters (featuring* Sirens, It Ends With Us, Remarkably Bright Creatures*)
-
You’re into Immersive World-Building (featuring* 3-Body Problem, The Vampire Diaries, The Man in the High Castle*)
-
You Love a Great Plot Twist (featuring Man on Fire, Killing Eve, His&Hers)
-
You Savor Swoonworthy Romances (featuring Normal People, Virgin River, Heartstopper)
-
You’re a Nonfiction Fanatic (featuring* Worst Ex Ever, Orange is the New Black, Shrill*)
-
You’re a History and Period Piece Buff (featuring The Last Kingdom, Bridgerton, Mindhunter)
-
You Adore All-Ages Adventures (featuring Shrek, The Witches, A Series of Unfortunate Events)
-
You Collect Manga and Comics (featuring One Piece, Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia)
-
You’re Wild About Web Stories (section currently not live on Netflix)
So what’s the point in a dedicated hub for book adaptations? “We’ve seen a real passion from fans around Netflix’s library of book adaptations. Our team looked to celebrate that fandom by creating a destination on Netflix for enthusiasts to explore their favorites and find more stories they’ll love,” said Mansi Patel, Netflix’s Senior Director of Product Merchandising (per Netflix). “Built on our recently redesigned experience and the success of earlier fan-inspired collections, such as ‘Your Zodiac Watchlist,’ ‘Watch Your Favorite Books’ brings together our library of book-inspired entertainment into one engaging, immersive space, making it fun and exciting to find what to watch next based on your personal taste and reading style.”
First Look at ‘Watch Your Favorite Books’ on Netflix (With AI Slop)
The rollout of the feature has already caught the eye for the wrong reasons.
The image that Netflix has chosen for the backdrop — featuring books, a blanket, and an all-around cozy vibe — looks suspiciously AI-generated. If it is, it’s a strange and ironic way to introduce a category that celebrates book adaptations with books that don’t exist in the top right and shows and movies on the app on the phone that definitely don’t exist. Add that to the garbled text, it’s a headscratcher. Why is Netflix using AI slop when they could’ve just photoshopped actual books they’re adapting… Who knows.
