Perhaps the best feature of the Steam Deck is its portability. Bringing it along on vacation, or even just to sit in your backyard and touch some grass, is as easy as picking it up and going. Unfortunately, not every game plays as well as we would like on the handheld machine, as most of these games were designed for PC gaming with a keyboard and mouse. So, knowing which games are worth loading up on your Steam Deck before vacation is a good idea.

Lately, the Steam Deck has been in the news for not happy reasons, with a massive price hike on the handheld console making it even more difficult to purchase one. If you already have a Steam Deck, though, then this list is a great jumping-off point for planning your summer gaming.

Whether on a plane, at the beach, or sitting on your patio, these are some of the current hits that run great on the Steam Deck and will keep you entertained for hours.

The episodic Telltale-style gameplay of Dispatch is an ideal game to pick up in quick bursts of gameplay. The adventure game relies heavily on player choices in how things will play out with dialog and relationships with other characters. Playing as a former superhero who is now working as a dispatcher for villains-turned-superheroes, players must help take down the evil Red Ring, who is attacking Los Angeles.

Dispatch runs well on the Steam Deck, really only needing a few buttons to play it. The biggest issue that might come up is the size of the text for some players with more visual needs.

The masterful bullet hell game, Vampire Survivors, has been out for a few years now and is always a fun and chaotic game to pick up. It does play well on the Steam Deck, despite the massive hordes that can swarm your screen at any given moment, and it is a great grab-and-go title to play anywhere.

Just recently, the deck-building successor to Vampire Survivors was released, with *Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors *offering a new way to experience the chaos. The game is another that is great for picking up on the Steam Deck as it runs well and has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews.

Indie gem Wavetale is an under-hyped experience that would be ideal for taking with you on vacation or just relaxing and enjoying some ocean vibes. The game follows Sigrid, a young girl who magically gains the power to walk on water. With this ability, she heads out to defeat a powerful nemesis and save the citizens of the islands in the archipelago of Strandville.

The story-driven adventure was originally designed to be played on Stadia, and, therefore, the Stadia controller inputs for the game work well for the Steam Deck’s controls. While Steam lists Wavetale as only “playable” on Steam Deck, I have found no issues with performance or gameplay, and truly it feels like *Wavetale *could have been made for the Steam Deck all along.

If you look at what games have the most players enjoying them on the Steam Deck at any given moment, it’s a safe bet that Slay The Spire 2 will be on that list.

Like the above-mentioned Vampire Crawlers, Slay the Spire 2 is a roguelike deckbuilder. By selecting cards from your hand, you can cast spells, use potions, and more to defeat the monsters in the twisting labyrinth of the Spire.

Although it’s currently still in its Early Access version while the game is continuing to be in development, *Slay the Spire 2 *is already Steam Deck verified and runs incredibly well. The very nature of deckbuilders makes them a natural fit for the handheld console, and is always a fun choice.

Perhaps you are looking for a more relaxing experience for your summer gaming? In Outbound you can go on a cozy roadtrip in through an open-world just waiting to be explored. Starting with just an empty camper van, you can slowly build it into the traveling home of your dreams, decorating and painting it and even adding modular parts. Grow a garden, raise pets, fish, and explore at your own pace, choosing only the quests you want to do.

Not only is Outbound Steam Deck verified, but several early reviewers of the game also stated that it runs much better than they expected. If using the default settings, the game runs at about 30 and 40 FPS, but this can be increased by bringing down some of the settings, particularly the rendering scale.

If you’d rather kick things up a notch and try out one of the big games of 2026, *Pragmata *runs surprisingly well on the Steam Deck also. This sci-fi adventure follows Hugh and the android Diana on a quest to stop a rogue AI across a space station.

Not only does Steam have Pragmata listed as verified for the Steam Deck, but reviewers who tried the game on the handheld console seem to agree that as long as the graphics preset is at low and motion blur is turned off, the game runs smoothly, and you can still enjoy the stunning graphics and storyline.

Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library is a single-player simulation game that blends a relaxing experience of collecting books with fun magical abilities that can boost your efficiency and experience.

The game has recently been making a name for itself as an unexpected gem with addictive qualities, with some Steam reviewers mentioning how calming and meditative the game is.

Given the slow-pace and simple atmosphere of Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library, it should come as no surprise that this game runs incredibly smoothly on the Steam Deck, with good performance and natural-feeling controls. Unfortunately, there is a potential for getting motion sickness with some of the movements, so anyone who struggles with that challenge (like myself) may want to be wary.

I will admit to being skeptical about how well Forza Horizon 6 would run on the Steam Deck, as this is a game that obviously needs quite a bit of power under the hood. Gameplay-wise, the driving and racing of the Forza Horizon series is a natural fit for the controls of the Steam Deck, and short races can be picked up and set aside as needed on holiday.

Steam has *Forza Horizon 6 *listed as being Steam Deck verified, and although you may want to lower the graphics settings a bit to help with performance, it actually does run well and scales nicely to the handheld. It does drain your battery a bit faster than usual, however.

Just a couple of days before this article was written, on May 28, a new game was released that is an absolute must-play for any fans of pixel action-adventure platform games. Made by the same developers as Shovel Knight, the new Mina the Hollower takes players on a desperate mission to rescue a cursed island.

Mina the Hollower’s pixelated 8-bit visuals are made in the style of the Game Boy Color, which is naturally going to be a perfect fit for the Steam Deck. Framerates are steady at 90 FPS along with a very low drain on the battery, making it feel as though *Mina the Hollower *was designed specifically for the Steam Deck.

Of course, one of the most popular games of this summer is none other than LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Generally speaking, LEGO games work great for the handheld Steam Deck. The stunning visuals of the new LEGO Batman had many worried that this one would be a bit too much for the system, but online forums and reviews mostly agree that the game is surprisingly smooth.

Although you may still want to adjust your graphics settings to keep things running well, it sounds as though LEGO Batman could just be the ideal game to take with you on your summer vacation, or at least to sit in front of an air conditioner with.
