It’s a pretty exciting time to be a Star Wars fan. Or, at least it is if you’re a gamer. Opinion on *The Mandalorian and Grogu *seems to be pretty split, continuing an unfortunate trend for Star Wars on the big screen. However, with games like *Star Wars: Galactic Racer *and *Fate of the Old Republic *on the horizon, there are definitely things to look forward to.
That’s not to say there haven’t been some great *Star Wars *games in the last few years, mind you. *Star Wars Battlefront 2 *is probably better now than it was at launch, and after a round of much-needed updates, *Star Wars Outlaws *is a genuinely great open-world Ubisoft adventure set in the iconic galaxy far, far away.
Unfortunately, thanks to less-than-impressive sales, it was reported last year that the planned sequel to *Star Wars Outlaws *would never see the light of day. A shame, as even those who really didn’t enjoy Kay’s adventure through the Outer Rim can surely admit there was *some *potential there that could have been explored in a sequel. CD Projekt RED didn’t come straight out with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, did they?
Indeed, *Star Wars Outlaws *might not have an army of fans, but there are those who continue to rally behind the cause for a sequel. One gamer has even gone so far as to create a petition. And while a little over 3,000 signatures is hardly cause for Disney and Ubisoft to rescue *Star Wars Outlaws 2 *from the jaws of cancellation, the fact it’s still getting signatures to this day speaks to the fact the game did have its admirers.
*“All Star Wars media for the past two years has suffered low viewership/sales,” *one fan wrote on Reddit. “Ubisoft were not wrong. Outlaws unfortunately followed a few highly publicised poorly received projects. A year prior and it would have done better. The grifters lying hurt the game more than anything. This game reviewed higher than Jedi Fallen Order btw; the second best selling SW game of all time.”
Another added: “This game is great as it stands today. To hear that they aren’t going to do a sequel is a huge bummer. The Jedi games don’t interest me in the slightest, but Outlaws is a must-have.”
While I feel obligated to point out that petitions like this rarely do anything even if the numbers are huge, it’s great to see a *Star Wars *game that had a lot of muck thrown its way at launch has found a dedicated fanbase, even if it’s not the biggest.
