“Brave Little Toaster” Finally Coming To Disney+
As part of Disney’s “Throwback” summer campaign for Disney+ and Hulu, it’s been revealed that Disney is adding some of its long-awaited missing titles from its vault to Disney+.
Along with “The Weekenders”, Disney has announced that the classic 1980s animated film, “Brave Little Toaster” to Disney+ in the United States on May 25th 2026.
The movie tells the story of five electrical appliances that suddenly feel dumped when their young master mysteriously disappears! The dejected toaster rounds up the vacuum cleaner, electric blanket, and bedside lamp and radio, and together, they set off for the big city in search of their beloved owner!
While many fans of the film consider it a classic Disney film from their childhood, the reason why the movie hasn’t been added to Disney+ already is due to the complexity of the rights to the film. This is because the original “Brave Little Toaster” was made by Hyperion Pictures, with Disney picking up the rights for the home video and television release in the United States.
The movie initially aired on the Disney Channel in the US on February 27th, 1988, with Disney also re-releasing the movie on VHS, Laserdisc and eventually DVD. Internationally, the movie was distributed by different companies, which is why, currently, we only know that the film will be added to Disney+ in the United States. We won’t know if the film will be available internationally on Disney+ unless it suddenly shows up.
Due to the success of the first film, Disney picked up the distribution rights on “The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue” and “The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars”, which are already available on Disney+ in the United States.
Roger’s Take: It’s great to see Disney investing more time and money into adding classic content onto Disney+, as since the initial launch, we’ve only seen a handful of classic titles added to the platform, which is a shame and a missed opportunity to offer different content from its competitors like Netflix and Amazon.
