Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Boys season 5, episode 7.The Boys is shattering more than bones in season 5.
Prime Video’s adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comics has become a global phenomenon. The R-rated superhero series follows a group of vigilantes who are fighting back against the corrupt Supes and Vought, who are the power behind the madness. Antagonist supe Homelander’s (played by Antony Starr) ego, madness, and power only intensify as Butcher (played by Karl Urban) does everything in his power to stop him.
Prime Video has revealed that The Boys season 5 is the most viewed season in series history and has surpassed 55 million viewers. The final season reached 57 million viewers in its first 39 days and ranks among the top 10 most viewed seasons of any original series in the history of Prime Video. Since the premiere of the final season, seasons 1 to 5 of The Boys has reached over 69 million viewers.
The incredible record-breaking feat proves the demand for The Boys is still alive and well despite it being the final season of the flagship series. Unfortunately, the viewership wasn’t enough to keep the spinoff Gen V alive as Prime Video announced recently that it has been cancelled after two seasons. However, more spinoffs are expected to be released, including the prequel Vought Rising, which explores Soldier Boy’s origins, and The Boys: Mexico.
The final season has caused a great divide online, with many wondering how it will end due to the major changes compared to the original comics. Showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that Soldier Boy’s final scene was included in episode 7, meaning that Homelander’s biological father will be stuck in a cryo chamber instead of fulfilling his wishes for travelling…to put it nicely.
Another major point of contention is Gen V and its cancellation, which Kripke stated he fought very hard against. Unfortunately for fans, the Gen V characters, including Jaz Sinclair’s Marie Moreau, won’t have an official conclusion in the series finale of The Boys.
“I’m hopeful that’s not the last time you see them, because we don’t end their storyline in ‘The Boys,’ Like, that’s all done, and they head off to have more adventures. Those characters still have things to work on, and that was very intentional. We still want the opportunity to be able to do that.
There’s more story that we want to tell. Sometimes these things just don’t go your way, but all the other producers and I really fought hard to try to keep it going.”
The Boys is available to watch on Prime Video.
