The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is finally coming in November of this year (barring another delay), more than 13 years after the last game in the series dropped. As such, the anticipation really is at pretty unprecedented levels for a video game, and fans are expecting big things when they get the chance to get their hands on it.
One significant group of players that’s set to miss out on the proverbial party is PC players, with the game not set to launch on the platform until some time after it does on consoles. While Rockstar have remained quiet on the exact reasons for that until recently, new revelations have now emerged from the very top of the proverbial tree, and fans aren’t happy at all with what they’re hearing.
Over on Reddit, one user shared a post from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, in which he explained why GTA VI isn’t coming to PC right away. He said, ” Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core.” He then went on to say that it had nothing to do with Rockstar’s deal with PlayStation, countering with the fact that, “Historically, Rockstar’s gone to console first.”
The comments below the post were understandably unhappy with that reasoning, with one saying, “It’s easy you get likely double conversions for millions of customers LOL. FOMO is one of the most powerful tools of marketing. So many PC gamers will crack and get GTA VI early on console and then again on PC, and Rockstar knows this.”
While another added, “What a bulls**t nothing burger answer. They do it to double sell their game, but that guy is too stupid or too corporate to acknowledge this simple goal. They don’t care about the majority of PC gamers apparently.”
Others threatened direct action, with one saying, “Perhaps I should wait until the game goes on sale before buying it, since PC users apparently aren’t ‘core consumers.’ What’s another 6–12 months anyway after waiting this long?”
Perhaps upsettingly, the fact remains that Rockstar have created such a spectacularly popular product in GTA VI that they know they can release it in pretty much any way and people will still buy it by the proverbial bucket load. While that’s scant consolation for PC gamers, let’s at least hope that the final product is everything we are hoping it is going to be.
