For many people, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still their favorite Zelda game. Many consider it their favorite action-adventure game, period, and some think it’s the best game ever made. No matter where you stand, you’re in good company, as it’s one of the most beloved video games in history, from critical reception to sales, to all-time lists.
Those same fans are hoping that Nintendo will celebrate in style during the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda celebrations this year. We’ve gotten a LEGO set out of it so far, and the potential for an Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake, thanks to a new leak. But you’ll have to mark your calendar sooner than that possible Q3 or Q4 release window.
On X, fans are celebrating a new Ocarina of Time release, which is due out on May 21. Given everything else, this is starting to become quite the year.

QUESTION 1 / 8OCARINA OF TIME
What instrument does Link play in Ocarina of Time?
✓ Correct! The Ocarina of Time is a magical instrument given to Link by Princess Zelda herself. Its melodies can control time, teleport Link across Hyrule, and unlock ancient secrets. ✗ Not quite, hero! The answer is the Ocarina. It’s right there in the title — Ocarina of Time! This magical wind instrument is given to Link by Princess Zelda and is central to the game’s time-travel mechanics.
QUESTION 2 / 8OCARINA OF TIME
What is the name of Link’s iconic fairy companion in Ocarina of Time?
✓ Correct! “Hey! Listen!” — Navi is Link’s fairy guide assigned by the Great Deku Tree. Her constant calls became one of gaming’s most iconic (and lovably annoying) catchphrases. ✗ Not quite, hero! The answer is Navi. Tatl is the fairy companion in Majora’s Mask, Fi is the spirit of the Goddess Sword in Skyward Sword, and Midna is the Twilight Princess imp from Twilight Princess. Navi is the original “Hey! Listen!” fairy.
QUESTION 3 / 8BREATH OF THE WILD
In Breath of the Wild, how many Divine Beasts must Link free from Ganon’s corruption?
✓ Correct! The four Divine Beasts are Vah Ruta (elephant, Zora’s Domain), Vah Rudania (salamander, Death Mountain), Vah Medoh (bird, Rito Village), and Vah Naboris (camel, Gerudo Desert). Each is piloted by a Champion’s spirit. ✗ Not quite, hero! The answer is 4. The four Divine Beasts are Vah Ruta, Vah Rudania, Vah Medoh, and Vah Naboris — each named after a sage from Ocarina of Time and controlled by a corrupted Blight Ganon.
QUESTION 4 / 8GENERAL
The Triforce is made up of three golden triangles representing Power, Wisdom, and what?
✓ Correct! Power (held by Ganondorf), Wisdom (held by Princess Zelda), and Courage (held by Link) — together they form the sacred Triforce, the ultimate relic left behind by the three Golden Goddesses of Hyrule. ✗ Not quite, hero! The answer is Courage. The three pieces are the Triforce of Power (Ganondorf), the Triforce of Wisdom (Princess Zelda), and the Triforce of Courage (Link). Each bearer reflects their piece’s virtue.
QUESTION 5 / 8TEARS OF THE KINGDOM
In Tears of the Kingdom, what new ability lets Link fuse objects together to create weapons and tools?
✓ Correct! Fuse lets Link combine materials directly with weapons and shields to boost damage and add effects. Ultrahand is for moving and attaching objects together, Ascend phases Link through ceilings, and Recall reverses object movement. ✗ Not quite, hero! The answer is Fuse. While Ultrahand lets you grab and attach objects to build contraptions, Fuse is specifically for combining items with weapons and shields. Ascend lets Link pass through ceilings, and Recall reverses an object’s movement.
QUESTION 6 / 8MAJORA’S MASK
In Majora’s Mask, how many days does Link have before the moon crashes into Termina?
✓ Correct! The 3-day cycle is the core mechanic of Majora’s Mask. Link must play the Song of Time to reset the clock before the terrifying moon destroys Clock Town and all of Termina. Each cycle lets you solve new puzzles and help different characters. ✗ Not quite, hero! The answer is 3 days. The repeating 3-day cycle is what makes Majora’s Mask so unique. Link plays the Song of Time to reset back to Dawn of the First Day, keeping key items but losing expendable ones. That menacing moon waits for no one.
QUESTION 7 / 8GENERAL
What is the name of the recurring villain and primary antagonist across most Zelda games?
✓ Correct! Ganondorf — also known as Ganon in his beast form — is the bearer of the Triforce of Power and has been Link’s nemesis since the original 1986 game. The Gerudo King of Thieves is the series’ ultimate evil. ✗ Not quite, hero! The answer is Ganondorf. While Vaati (Minish Cap/Four Swords), Zant (Twilight Princess), and Ghirahim (Skyward Sword) are formidable villains in their own games, Ganondorf/Ganon is THE recurring primary antagonist of the entire Zelda franchise.
QUESTION 8 / 8TWILIGHT PRINCESS
In Twilight Princess, Link transforms into what creature when entering the Twilight Realm?
✓ Correct! Wolf Link is accompanied by the imp Midna, who rides on his back and guides him through the Twilight Realm. In wolf form, Link can use special senses to track scents, dig through barriers, and communicate with animals. ✗ Not quite, hero! The answer is a wolf. When Link enters the Twilight Realm, he transforms into Wolf Link and is accompanied by Midna, the mischievous Twilight Princess. Wolf Link can use heightened senses, dig, and howl songs to summon the Hero’s Spirit.

Your Hyrule Record
Are you the Hero of Hyrule — or still stuck in Kokiri Forest?
Game Press just posted on X that they’re opening pre-orders for the Echoes of Hyrule book. In it, you’ll “relive the epic story of Ocarina of Time,” complete with original illustrations. The idea is to tell the game’s story chronologically, using images and illustrations to narrate its adventure. It’s a cool concept, and the original art looks fantastic so far, including the cover.
If you’re interested, the deluxe edition comes with the following extras:
There’s also a “Time Hero” collector’s edition, which comes with:
It’s coming out sooner than expected, as the book goes on sale on May 21. It’ll cost you roughly $29.99 USD for the standard edition, and about $39.99 for the collector’s edition.
Ocarina of Time is having a heck of a year in 2026, coinciding with the series’ 40th anniversary. First, we had the early announcement of a new LEGO set featuring the memorable climactic battle, and the Ocarina of Time remake could come out as early as this year. Hopefully, Nintendo has more up its sleeve for this monumental anniversary, but if the latter comes to pass, it’ll be remembered for years to come.
For now, if you’re a massive Ocarina of Time fan, you can enjoy the Echoes of Hyrule book. It would be great to read it alongside a replay of the original to prepare for the eventual remake.
