Voit is back and has an entirely new role in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 19.

Long before it became one Paramount+‘s best thrillers, Criminal Minds was on CBS as a network procedural. It ran for 15 long years, allowing the public to really develop an investment in the BAU’s work and its members’ respective personal lives. Its original run ended in 2020, with the finale seeing Penelope Garcia quitting the bureau, which was a great way to cap off an era. Luckily for fans, it didn’t take long before Paramount revisited the show and brought it back through streaming.

The original BAU team will always be special for long-time fans, but Criminal Minds: Evolution has found a great mix of legacy characters and newer faces for Emily Prentiss’ squad. Unlike its run on CBS, the streamer’s darker version focuses on one big case every season, but throughout the show’s run thus far, its primary unsub has been Elias Voit. The official trailer for the series’ upcoming season, however, establishes the character’s new role.

Paramount+ has officially released the trailer for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 19, which offers a proper look at what’s next for the BAU after solving the main Sicarius case in season 18. Clocking at just a minute and 40 seconds, the clip reveals that Voit has continued his rehabilitation and is even the focus of a true-crime podcast. Beyond that, he’s now treated as a resource person by the BAU. Watch the video below:

Aside from the main cast, including Zach Gilford as its central unsub in his redemption arc, Criminal Minds: Evolution season 19 will feature a string of guest stars. The list includes Connor Storrie (Heated Rivalry), Justin Kirk (Angels in America), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), Cress Williams (Black Lightning), Kofi Siriboe (Queen Sugar), Lyndon Smith (Step Sisters), Richard Cabral (Mayans), Jeri Ryan (Star Trek Voyager), Rob Yang (The Menu), Nicholas Gonzalez (The Good Doctor), Inny Clemons (Judging Amy), Nicole Pacent (Westworld), Dash Mihok (Ray Donovan), Joseph Cross (Big Little Lies) and Cara Jade Myers (Killers of the Flower Moon). Additionally, Clark Gregg (Marvel’s* Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D*) is reprising his role as FBI Director Ray Madison, while Paul F. Tompkins (Bojack Horseman) returns as Brian Garrity.

Every season of Criminal Minds: Evolution thus far has focused on one or two characters. Dave Rossi and JJ Jarreau went through some tough times in the past few years, and looking at this new trailer, it does seem like it is Adam Rodriguez’s Luke Alvez’s time under the spotlight. Usually, these stories are more personal than just being about the job, so it’s curious what kind of challenges he will be presented in *Criminal Minds: Evolution *season 19, especially since Voit is no longer being treated as a despicable serial killer.

After three seasons of dealing with Voit, spending the next run to continue his rehabilitation is one way to keep the show fresh. It doesn’t appear like the Paramount+ thriller has any plans of ending his story anytime soon, which is great in terms of keeping the character, since Gilford plays him effectively. Since ***Criminal Minds ***is already confirmed for season 20, it’s curious if this will still be the case after this cycle.
