Movie hackers are often stationary, operating from the safety of a computer lab or a basement as they race the information superhighway. That’s not the case for Dane DeHaan’s Cole in Wardriver, a new cyber thriller that currently boasts a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Collider is proud to exclusively present an extended 10-minute sneak peek from the new film, now available to rent or own digitally.

In our sneak peek, we see Cole at work, lurking in the driveway of a lavish house as he creeps agonizingly closer and closer to danger, hoping to get enough of a Wi-Fi signal to carry out his illicit deeds…in this case, he’s stealing $800 grand from a wealthy man (Jeffrey Donovan, Burn Notice). Cole successfully evades detection, but he notices a mysterious woman at the scene of the crime: Sarah (Sasha Calle, The Flash’s Supergirl). He returns to his employer, low-level criminal Oscar (Mamoudou Athie, The Drama), who insists that Cole celebrate the heist with his crew…or else. However, even through the haze of drugs and booze, all Cole can think about is Sarah. With his hacking skills, he’s soon able to uncover all sorts of information about her, including her favorite hangout, a Chinese restaurant. That’s where he finds her…and where their destinies will collide.

Wardriver was directed by Rebecca Thomas. It’s her second feature, after the 2012 Julia Garner-led coming-of-age film Electrick Children, which she also scripted. She is a prolific television director, and has helmed episodes of Limetown, Archive 81, and Doc; she also directed the controversial second-season Stranger Things episode “The Lost Sister,” which came into play during the series’ final season. The script is by Daniel Casey, who penned the science fiction film ***Kin ***and the high-octane franchise entry F9. He is currently writing and executive producing a TV adaptation of the Mass Effect video game series for Prime Video. In addition to DeHaan, Calle, Donovan, and Athie, the film also stars William Belleau (Killers of the Flower Moon), Karina Gale (Grizzly Night), and Cameron Lee Price (Desert Dawn).

A wardriver is a hacker who moves from network to network, either wireless or cellular, from inside a moving vehicle. The name derives from “wardialling,” the low-tech version of the tactic, which was itself named after the seminal hacker classic WarGames.
